Location Data Policy
How your location is processed, how it is protected and how to turn it off.
Why location is needed
PlanMEET's core function is "discover plans near you". That function does not work without location; if you turn location sharing off, plans are shown based on city information.
Your precise location is never shared with anyone
Location privacy is enforced in three layers at PlanMEET:
- Fuzzing: before your coordinates are stored they are offset by roughly 300 metres using a per-user, unchanging offset vector. Your real coordinates are never written to the database.
- Bucketing: distance is shown to other users in buckets rather than decimals ("under 1 km", "5 km", "20 km", "50+ km").
- Throttling: your location is updated at most once every five minutes.
- Retention: location is NOT kept as a separate history. Only your latest fuzzed location is stored and it is overwritten on every update — a timeline of where you have been never comes into existence.
What is under your control
- You can turn location sharing off completely: Settings → Privacy and Security
- You can turn off the display of your distance
- You can revoke location permission at device level in your operating system settings
Sharing location in a conversation
You can share a meeting location inside a conversation. This is the real, unfuzzed location and it is delivered only to the person you matched with. This sharing happens through your deliberate action; it is never automatic.
